New Business/s

Well after all the Christmas/New year celebrations are over me and swmbo ( she who must be obeyed) or her in doors, decided to have a go at our wetroom products business. This came about from our first order from our supplier and me driving over to see him and look at the new products. Which I think we can sell.

So as from today Wetroom Products was born (again). We have had 2 orders on line now so I am going to take the company on the road and do some good old selling to a lot of the people I used to sell to.

Now as I am classed as one of the several million unemployed in blighty, I can do this legally for 16 hours a week, suits me. I never intentionally ever worked more than that even when being paid. I remember in 2001 on a Friday afternoon, I did my grocery shopping in the morning, I was playing golf and my Sales Director rang me….Steve he said, your are over target this month, did you get out of bed. Yes I replied a few times.  He asked where are you…playing golf ???? Yes I said. Good he said, you can do anything you want to do if you are on target, so I charged the drinks on the 19th to my expense account. Plus as I was still on target a month later I went to Spain for a long weekend.

How things have changed, I used to have a new car every two years, now our cars our 8 and 6 years old and mine has 172,000 miles on the clock, plus I don’t play golf anymore.

As I picked up our son from nursery today, the woman who owns it has a lovely Toyota LandCruiser in black, which I drool over. So today as I left with little man she was just geting out of her car. I pulled over and gave her one of my detailing business cards.  Hopefully I have 2 mini buses to clean and the ladies SUV to detail plus her husbands Saab. Not a bad day.

There was an article in the UK Auto Express today about GM Germany needing $3b in 2003 to develop a diesel/hybrid engine that could deliver good power and over 100mpg economy. GM US decided to invest the money in launching the Hummer instead. Bet they wish they would have listened.

I’ll sign off with a little joke.

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the
computer industry with the auto industry and stated, “If GM had kept up with
technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00
cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon”.

In response to Bill’s comments, General Motors issued a press release
stating that if GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be
driving cars with the following characteristics:
1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.
2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy
a new car.
3. Occasionally your car would die on the motorway for no reason. You
would have to pull over to the side of the road, close all the windows, stop
the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could
continue…..For some reason you would simply accept this.
4. Occasionally, executing a manoeuvre such as a right turn would cause
your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to
reinstall the engine.
5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable,
five times as fast and twice as easy to drive – but would only run on five
percent of the roads.
6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be
replaced by a single “This-Car-Has-Performed–An-Illegal-Operation” warning
7. The airbag system would ask “Are you sure?” before deploying.
8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and
refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned
the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.
9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how
to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the
same manner as the old car.
10. You’d have to press the “Start” button to turn the engine off.

  1. I like this joke…(me being a Mac person and computer person!). I will pass it on! 😀

  2. Why is our lives harder now than they were years ago. Does any of it make any sense?!
